Stumbled across some info about New World, and found out that producer/writer Gillian Horvath and director Martin Wood are involved. And I may have peed a little, I was so excited by this!
For those unfamiliar, both have played a very large role in Sanctuary, which is a fantastic show that has a…
Hey ARCadians! By now, I’m sure we’ve all heard the sad news about series 6 being basically dead. And, to be perfectly frank, I think we fans need to be realistic that it IS dead. The original Primeval as we know it ain’t coming back. Even if, by some miracle, there’s another series produced to air in 2014 or later. It’ll likely be drastically different from what we have now—even more so than series 4/5 were from s1-3. The conditions under which the show was revived before aren’t the same as what we have now, making it much less likely. Which sucks, but that’s where we are.
If you have a few moments, and aren’t prone to doing a tl;dr flail, you might want to read the note below, which gives a little history and insight about our show’s lifespan, and where we can go from here. As always, we love our fellow ARCadians. This is a wonderful fandom. Thanks for being on board. :)
I’m oddly not as devastated as I thought I’d be about the Primeval cancellation. Maybe it hasn’t sunk in, yet, or maybe it’s just that I’ve expected this for so long that it’s not a shock.
One of the difficulties of my profession is that I know a lot more about how entertainment gets produced than the average fan, which kind of gives me a bit of a sixth sense about things being greenlit, cancelled, etc. And I saw the signs of this happening as soon as series 4 had aired on ITV, and they hadn’t quite got the ratings they were hoping for. The last year, for me, has just been waiting for that axe to finally fall, and now that it has, there’s a sense of relief. Not that I’m not grieving, of course, but mostly, I’m just angry that the entertainment biz is the way it is, and that fans really do have so little control over what happens to the things we love.
(Read on for more about how TV ratings work, and why Primeval, specifically, has been doomed for a while. It’s long—sorry!—but I hope you find it a good read.)
Sort of. Ben and Hannah will be starring in the next version of One Man, Two Guv’nors at the Haymarket starting in March.
Only a few hours until the Series 5 finale in the US.

FWIW, Amazon Instant Video has Series 4 available for streaming. Also, BBC America has been reairing a lot of s4 in their leadup to the series 5 premiere on Saturday.
I’m going to throw up.
The rights to the premise are what’s been optioned, so yes, it’d be a different cast, and probably different characters. FWIW, the optioning happened ages ago—two years at least.
However, the chances of this actually being greenlit and…
